Trees are givers not takers .They are the divine gift to mankind .They purify the air and are sound barriers .Joyce Kilner has said ,”Poems are written by fools like me , but only god can make a tree.”They provide us precious oxygen .They give us shade and cool breeze in summers .They also provide us fruits and vegetables , medicines , paper , timber etc . They maintain the ecological balance and helps in preventing Global Warming .Mahatama Gandhi has said , “Earth has enough to satisfy man’s need but not enough for everyone’s greed.”Today man is cutting trees mercilessly , callously and brutally. Without trees no life can sustain on earth .They are the green gold .They are the lungs of the earth and habitat for many animals and birds .They the paint the earth green. Trees are the ornaments our Mother Earth wears .Ruskin Bond has said , ” Blessed is the house upon whose walls , the shade of an old tree softly falls .They are man’s best friend .They bind the soil and prevent soil erosion , landslides , floods and make soil fertile .Our aim should be afforestation not deforestation. So –
DO WE HAVE TO WAIT TILL THEN ,
WILL GOOD SENSE NEVER COME TO MEN ,
THE WORLD CAN BE POLLUTION FREE ,

TREES ARE THE KINDEST THING I KNOW ,
THEY DO NOT HARM BUT SIMPLY GROW ,
THEY SPREAD A SHADE FOR SLEEPY COWS,
AND GATHER THE BIRDS IN THE BOUGHS
“Trees are the earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.”If trees are cut man would walk with cylinder on his back to supply the dose of oxygen. Vanmohatsava is celebrated every year in India. On this day , people plant thousands of trees. Wangari Mathai was the first environmentalist to get Nobel Prize for planting trees. She planted 30 million trees to save the environment. Like her , we should also do our bit yo save the earth. But the question is –
IF NOT NOW , THEN WHEN?
IF NOT WE , THEN WHO?
IF NOT HERE , THEN WHERE?
To answer these questions , we must join our hands to save the environment.
EACH ONE , PLANT ONE
