TECHNOLOGY

If our ancestors were to wake up after their long sleep of centuries , they would be amazed to see the world of today. Their wonder would be justified because the rapid advancement of science has changed the world beyond recognition. The benefits conferred by science upon society are so evident that it seems superfluous to say that science is a threat to civilization. Science has provided modern man a life of ease , leisure and pleasure. It has brought the comforts and luxuries of life within the reach of the common man which were once available only to the rich and the elite.                             Are we happier than our fore fathers?- It is very difficult to answer this question because the meaning of happiness differs from person to person and from time to time even with the same person. No doubt we produce as well as consume such things which our predecessors had never dreamt of but our we happier than them? Well the answer is ‘NO’. Today , man is trapped in the snare of money. He has his own ulterior motive , greed and aversion towards his fellow humans. But our ancestors lived a pious and carefree life and enjoyed every single moment.                                              Through the access of technology , we have speedier means of transport and communication , a wide variety of entertainment media and improved system of health and hygiene. There our better health facilities and civic amenities. All these comforts are at our disposal by pushing just a button.                                                                                                                          But like every coin has a flip side , there’s a dark and dismal side of technology too. We have more slums , more pollution , more poverty , more unemployment and more conflicts. There is noise , congestion , hustle and bustle , hurry and worry. This makes life full of stress and tension. There is pleasure but no contentment. There is progress but no piece of mind. We are busy in the hectic , humdrum and monotonous life and are totally engrossed in our materialistic world. Man is running a rat race and is totally divorced from nature. It is rightly said by W.H. Davies that A poor life if full of care , we have no time to stand and stare. We humans work like cogs in a machine. We our destroying our mother nature by evils like deforestation and making earth unfit place to live. We are ignoring being in the lap of nature.                                                    Science has created weapons like nuclear powers , chemical and biological warfare. Modern technology has been a bane in the field of environment and wildlife. It has led to multiplication of diseases. Hence , science has given us knowledge but has failed to give us wisdom. Scientists have conquered the forces of nature but have failed to master human emotions and weaknesses.

TECHNOLOGY IS A — USEFUL SERVANT , BUT A DANGEROUS MASTER
