India struggled hard for its Independence. Even after Independence it faced many challenges. Due to the wide diversity , the world thought that this young country would end soon. But India defied all these apprehensions and moved forward as a Strong country.
In order not to lag behind in the space race with the world , India established its first ever Space organisation. It was formed in 1969 by the Government of India and was named ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). India launched its first ever rocket on cycle in 1963 and the second one on a bullock cart but today ISRO is one of the 5 largest Space Agencies in the world. But this advancement of this Space Agencies was not easy and full of turmoil.
With the direction of Vikram Sarabhai , ISRO launched the country’s first ever Satellite ‘Aryabhatta’ in 1975. This historic moment was marked in the pages of History forever and from then this Space Agency never looked back.
ISRO has till now successfully launched –
- 101 Space craft missions
- 72 Launch Missions
- 9 Student Satellites
- 2 Re-entry Missions
- 269 Foreign Satellites
ISRO became the world’s first Space Agency to orbit mars in first attempt and India became the first Asian country to do so. ISRO like this has brought laurels to the country man-a-times. Similarly , Chandrayaan 1 in 2008 was a Lunar orbiter mission and was successful in finding water on moon. This was a major boost to country’s space programme.
On 22 July 2019 , ISRO launched Chandrayaan 2 with an object to land on the South pole of the moon. No country has been able to land in the south pole of moon which would make ISRO the first to do so. If it is successful to do so, India would become the fourth country to land on Moon. Chandrayaan 2 aims at understanding the lunar composition and identify its geographical structure and elements. It also aims on confirming water and ice on moon surface. The ‘Vikram’ lander housing the ‘Pragyaan’ rover is set to touch the moon surface on Saturday at 1:30 AM IST. This would be a historic moment as this landing will etch ISRO and India’s name in Golden Words. It is also apprehended that Moon’s South pole has helium 3 along with several precious metals. If ISRO is able to discover these metals , India will be on its way to become the next Superpower.
