Good Deeds Reflect Good Character

Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Our character is a profile of habits and disposition to act in a certain way. Our character is not reflected by what we say or even what we intend , it is a reflection of whatever we do as ‘Actions speak louder than Words’. Times change , so do the traditions , but values and the ethics do not change , they always remain the same. Our deeds develop into habits and habits harden into character. Habits are a product of our choices. The choices rest with all of us and we can own up to our choices and set a destination that reflects quality character. Strong character results from consistent correct choices. Consistent excercise of good conduct builds noble character.

The daily development of our personal character will be reflected in every area of our lives , how we respond to temptation. A person of good character will do good deeds , not only in presence of strangers but also when he/she is alone. People of good character are like treasured porcelain , carefully crafted by consistent righteous acts. Gandhiji has rightly said  , “If money is lost  – nothing is lost , If health is lost  – something is lost but If character is lost – everything is lost.”  Good , noble and excellent character is not governed in a day – it is developed everyday. A person who has developed the virtue of generosity is often referred to as generous person because he/she tends to be generous in all circumstances.

But sadly , there has been an erosion of values in the youth of today. Everybody has become self centered. But the real question to be answered is that “What are we trying to improve ourselves?” NOTHING. The source of good deeds is self sacrifice but all have their ulterior motive. All great men and woman of all climes and times have been the ones of great deed. Teachers , Parents must provide healthy environment and train the children from a tender age about the art of developing character. Being a good person does not depend on ones religion , caste , colour , creed or place of birth , it depends on how good you are at heart and how you treat others.
